GET HELP!

WE ARE HERE TO HELP YOU!

We encourage you to apply with us if you need help recovering from the effects of Hurricane Florence.

We are a non-government, non-faith based organization (though we do partner with several churches and other faith based response teams).

We want to help you with issues related to housing, rebuilding your home, counseling, advocacy, or other unmet needs your family is facing.

ALL ARE WELCOME TO APPLY.

CLTRA does not and shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status, in any of its activities or operations.

WHAT TO DO FIRST:

The following are the first steps you need to take to recover from the recent disaster and a brief explanation of the federal government's disaster assistance process. For more detailed information, please visit the Disaster Recovery Center, Board of Elections, 1702 Live Oak St, Beaufort, NC, or visit www.fema.gov or call 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). FEMA is available 24/7.

If you have insurance, contact your insurance company and file a claim. Be sure to take lots of pictures of the damage! If you don’t have a good list of furniture, fixtures and other possessions get a copy of IRS Publication 584 (Latest revision). It has a lot of tables to help you remember to cover everything when itemizing your losses. HELPFUL HINT: Make sure to talk to your agent about your coverage before a disaster. If your insurance does not cover all of your needs, such as money to pay for a place to stay while you fix your house (sometimes called additional living expense coverage), you may be eligible for money from the federal government. The federal government cannot give you money for items that insurance covers, but they may be able to help with uncompensated losses. If your insurance company is going to take a long time to settle your claim, you may also be eligible for help.

If you do not have insurance, or have emergency needs that insurance does not cover --- Call 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) - TTY 1-800-462-7585 - to apply for federal disaster assistance.  If you need assistance, contact us! CLTRA volunteers are here to help!

For more information on what to do if your business, non profit, or farm was damaged visit FEMA.

OUR GOAL IS TO ENABLE YOUR INDIVIDUAL FAMILY TO SOLVE YOUR RECOVERY NEEDS!

What to Expect:

We are here to help for the long haul! Recovery is a marathon and while we know it is easy to get discouraged, take heart! Hope is on the way. We have over 25 cases that we are working on and through our partnerships with other groups in the county, we have over 200 cases. We believe that there are over 6000 homes in the county that will need to be repaired. We might not be able to get you back into your home today, but know that if you contact us, your request will be heard. We cannot promise to fix every house by the end of the day, week or month, but we can promise that you are not alone in this recovery process. Please contact us and let us know how we can partner with you in your rebuilding process. We are currently accepting volunteers but ask that our volunteers be patient as we are beginning to mobilize work teams. Many hands make light work, even when there is lots of work to be done. When you contact us to give or receive help, know that we are an organization run by volunteers and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Types of Assistance we offer:

CLTRA provides assistance for damage or loss that is a result of a disaster affecting the Carteret County area, and the range of services will be based on available resources.

Before assistance is considered, the case must be determined as an appropriate referral by a Disaster Case Manager. In most cases that means the following:

  • Disaster caused a serious, unmet need. It is something that the survivors cannot meet for themselves.
  • It may be loss of housing, household goods, or an injury.
  • It is not a pre-disaster condition.
  • It is not to be an upgrade to the client’s living condition before the storm; however, this may happen in rebuilding in order to provide safe, secure and appropriate housing or required by building codes per the building inspection.

Anyone negatively impacted by a disaster, most recently Hurricane Florence, can reach out to CLTRA to help navigate the Long Term Recovery process.

Moving forward and finding help after a disaster can feel overwhelming. CLTRA can provide a recovery plan so that you are directed to the type of help you most need.

Recovery services include:

  • gathering important documents to build the “case” for long term assistance
  • developing an understanding your household's pre-storm situation
  • assessing your household's current situation
  • helping you to identify a “new normal” for goals of post-disaster life

Your individual recovery plan will reflect your specific needs.

  • Identifying the best repair or rebuilding option or assist in finding a new home.
  • Evaluating your financial resources to be contributed to recovery
  • Determining other financial resources needed from other sources to repair and replace your home, furniture, appliances in a place that is safe and secure for the long term.
  • Help accessing services for people with disabilities or health needs, or counseling services.
